Sketch design for internal alterations to a detached house in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire. The clients wished to make more of their south facing aspect, with better access to the garden. Due to the dramatic change in level through the site, our approach was to replace the existing external steps with a large elevated terrace and alter the existing bay windows at the rear to create one large glazed bay, behind which the new kitchen and open plan dining area are located. The old 'chilly' porch is replaced with an insulated timber frame box containing a new en-suite shower room serving a master bedroom in the location of the old kitchen.
